Dr. Santa Gabriela Acuña to Serve as Principal of Whittier Elementary School

Dr. Santa Gabriela Acuña was selected as the new principal of Whittier Elementary School, starting July 1, 2020. Dr. Acuña has more than 20 years of experience in education, most recently serving as an elementary principal at East Whittier City School District. 

While at East Whittier, she worked with school staff to provide instructional leadership that fostered a collaborative learning environment that resulted in improved student performance. She also implemented  Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports systems to improve the school culture. 

Prior to her role at East Whittier, Dr. Acuña was assistant principal at Lennox School District where she assisted in the implementation of academic interventions for a diverse population and led parent engagement programs.  As a teacher for many years, Dr. Acuña taught in a Spanish dual immersion program.

“We are thrilled to have Dr. Acuña join our team and feel that her experience is a great fit for the Whittier school community,” said Assistant Superintendent, Chief Human Resources Officer Ms. Leona Olson.   

Dr. Acuña obtained her Doctorate of Education from Loyola Marymount University and her Master of Arts in Education from the University of California, Los Angeles, and her Bachelor of Arts in Education from California State University, Long Beach.
